Montgenèvre is the last link in the notable Milky Way, a collection consisting of Montgenèvre and five Italian resorts that, together, feature over 400 km (249 mi) of snow-covered slopes. The village deems itself the oldest ski resort in France, and the runs are well-suited to skiers of all levels, and snowboarders will love the loads of blue and green runs. The more advanced, however, may find other nearby resorts a touch more challenging. Sample all the varieties the Alps will allow, as a passport tucked in the jacket pocket and a proper lift ticket will gain access to the rest of the Milky Way. The village is located only 15 minutes from the Italian border and it's possible to ski from country to country and check out Italy's side of the Alps.

San Sicario is known as a paradise for skiers. Part of Italy's famed Milky Way, its location has slopes that are constantly exposed to the sun throughout the day, and the peak of Chaberton offers some of the best views in the Alps. Its highest lift sits at 2,700 m (8,858 ft), and paths and connections will take skiiers and spectators easily to other affiliated resorts in just minutes. San Sicario will be a busy place during the 2006 Winter Olympics, where it, combined with the resort of Cesana, is set to host the events of biathlon, women's alpine, downhill, combined downhill, Super-G, bobsled, luge and skeleton. Located approximately 80 km (50 mi) west of Turin, the resort is easily reachable by public transit and automobile.

Claviere is a classic mountain village, with its architecture depicting timeless Alpine style. Locals whisper amongst themselves that their village has the best snow conditions in the Milky Way, and with an average snowfall of 15 m (50 ft), they just may be right. One of the links in Italy's famed Milky Way, Claviere is within walking distance to its French counterpart, Montgenevre. A relaxed atmosphere makes this a good stop for families, and there is plenty of instruction available on the mountain for beginners.

Sauze d'Oulx will host the freestyle skiing events at the 2006 Winter Olympics, making it likely to be a popular destination during the Games. Part of Italy's famed Milky Way, the resort is located 68 km (42 mi) from Turin, Sauze d'Oulx is easily reachable by shuttle bus and train. The resort's lowest point is 1,509 m (4,951 ft), and there are 22 lifts for both downhill and cross-country skiing. It covers the peaks of Triplx, Genevris and Moucrons, which rise to more than 2,823 m (9,262 ft). There are a range of slopes suitable for all levels of abilities, and the village's population of 982 is known for enjoying a lively nightlife once the lifts shut down.

Occupying what was once a farmer's meadow, and named the capital of the Milky Way, Sestrière is not only for ski lovers. The village plays host to several activities off the mountain, such as bowling, ice-skating and paragliding, and, with a population of 885, has a number of restaurants and shops to keep visitors busy in both summer and winter months. The resort is known for its steep and challenging runs, which have lent themselves for several international competitions, including the 2005 World Alpine Championships, and will be spotlighted in the 2006 Winter Olympics. Its highest lift sits at 2,840 m (9,318 ft), and the lowest at 1,840 m (6,037 ft). Sestrière is also the starting location for the Tour de France, and is located 87 km (54 mi) west of Turin.

Combined with the resort of San Sicario, Cesana Torinese is set to host the Olympic events of biathlon, women's alpine time trials, downhill, combined downhill, Super-G, bobsled, luge and skeleton, in February, 2006. Part of Italy's famed Milky Way, Cesana Torinese sits at 1,350 m (4,429 ft), and trails are surrounded by green forests and trickle down to paths around the Clot Foiron lakes. The ancient village was born when Hannibal, along with his elephants, used the nearby Montgenèvre Pass in Roman times as a passageway to France. Ruins from 2,000-year-old settlements remain. Cesana is located 80 km (50 mi) west of Turin.
